What We Need

As of October 5 2006

1. A monetary donation is always the best type of donation and is greatly appreciated and wisely used.

2. A new or recently used mini-van that holds at least six people to transport teens to and from their Community Service Projects at the schools and home afterwards. Our teens live in rough neighborhoods where their parents will not let them come to the Youth Institute unless they have safe transport home. Also to transport teens on trips that we do three or more times a year.

3. Any gas card that has money on it for gas. We do numerous trips and our community service projects at elementary schools and gas is expensive.

4. New or recently used Macbook, iBook, or Powerbook laptops. New or recently used iMac desktop computer.

5. School supplies for high school youth. This includes college ruled paper, pens, pencils, dividers, notebooks, composition notebooks, graphing calculators, compasses, rulers, highlighters, index cards, report cover folders, poster and display boards, markers, blank DVD’s CD-R’s and school backpacks.

6. New printers and ink cartridges (preferably HP). Teens print out tons of presentations and reports for school, and our cartridges are contstantly needing replacement.

7. New, hi-res digital scanners to scan photos for projects.

8. New digital still cameras, preferably Canon. Minimum 4 mega pixels. These are for class presentations and media projects for our teens.

9. New LCD Projectors. We take them to the teens high schools so they can do oral presentations.

10. New Digital Video movie cameras, preferably Canon. We have a strong digital storytelling curriculum where we teach urban youth how to tell stories through movie making.

11. Photo paper. Teens take pictures and like to have copies of their work.

12. Copy paper for printers. We go through tons of it with over fifty teens attending per day.

13. Computer desks or tables.

This is a starter list. If there are other technology related items that you wish to donate, we would gladly accept them. Please call or email Bob Cabeza, Executive Director at (562) 624-5474 if you would like to arrange a donation. We are a 501C3 nonprofit and all donations are tax deductible. We will provide any proof of your donation with a letter stating the item/s, cost, and our nonprofit federal tax ID number.
